Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Susan Ngugi has committed to ensuring all learners in the county have access to education regardless of their background.
Speaking at Kiamuchii in Chuka Igambang’ombe constituency while issuing bursaries to 25 needy students, Ngugi expressed concern that most children in the county don’t have access to academic scholarships and funding hence denying them an opportunity to study and achieve their dreams.
“My aim therefore is to ensure all these children have access to education,” she said, adding that her office spends Ksh3.8 million out of the allocated Ksh19.5 million for bursaries.
She noted that legislators with five or more wards in their constituencies were set to receive an additional allocation of Ksh175 million up from the previous Ksh145 million. From the amount, Ksh75 million will go towards bursaries.
Ngugi urged the national government to use her office to manage funds meant for the purchase and distribution of sanitary pads in schools.
She donated a water tank to Kiamuchii Primary School and awarded full academic scholarships to two students from the locality.
