EDUCATION TVET TRAINERS

The government is in the process of hiring more trainers in order to boost technical and vocational training programmes across the country, it has been announced.

In the interim, the government has advertised vacancies for some 3000 TVET trainers.

The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Industry in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry   Dr. Juma Mukhwana further noted that most graduates in the country do not have the desired skills.

Speaking in Kisumu Dr Mukhwana said most people in the TVET sector have the desired skills but do not have the much needed qualifications.

He said the government is at the moment aligning TVET courses in order to conform to changing trends globally.

The PS said many graduates are good in theory adding that the current reforms in the education sector will address the anomaly.

Dr Mukhwana indicated that practicals and hands-on modules of training should form the bulk of the country’s curriculum if Kenya was to move forward.

He regretted that many graduates are trained to be employed by other than employers and job creators.

Dr Mukhwana said the government intends to create more industrial parks and export processing zones in many parts of the country as a way of entrenching TVETS.

He said the government has at the moment allocated more funds to the education ministry which he noted will also address the shortage of funds.

Dr Mukhwana said the government has also come up, with an internship programme which he noted will assist youths.
