New faces at Gucha KNUT branch after successful by-elections

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Gucha branch successfully held a by-elections that saw new faces being brought on board.

The peaceful elections that took place at Tendere Secondary School in Kisii County were presided over by KNUT National Vice Chairman Kullow Mohammed on Tuesday.

The election was necessitated by the exit of Abert Ombaso who relinquished his treasurer’s position after attaining the retirement age.

His departure attracted five candidates including the Vice Chairman Vincent Mokua who resigned his post to vie for the position of treasurer.

In the hotly contest campaign, Michael Nyabuto Nyarango emerged the winner with 392 votes and trailed by Vincent Mokua who reaped 133 votes.

The forth position was taken by Josiah Mwangi with 52 votes while Joash Omoke and Moffat Orina took position four and five with 47 and 16 votes respectively.

The post of Vice chairman was taken by Onywoki Bichanga, who beat Ayubu Bisonga, Pius Ouko and Simeon Muma.

The elections were supervised by Kisii County Labour officer Wilson Luvavo.

Luvavo confirmed that he was satisfied with the peaceful elections exercise which said was free and fair.

The peaceful elections was graced by branch officials from Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Nyamira, Mugori and Kisii central led by Regional Chairman Stephen Mochama.

The chairman appreiated all branch members who attended the meeting for the big turn up which he said was a clear indication of solidarity and the union’s vibrancy.
