Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday opened a new school in Ongata Rongai town, Kajiado North Constituency to cater for the high number of students in the region.
The construction of the St Monica Catholic School was funded at a cost of sh 90 million by donors through the Superior General of Cannossian Fathers from Italy who visited Kenya and witnessed a needy for more schools.
The school is managed by St Monica Catholic in Nkaimurunya ward.
Mudavadi who was accompanied by Kajiado County Governor Joseph ole Lenku also donated sh 1 million towards the purchase of a school bus.
He said the government remains focused on delivering on projects to empower its citizens and reduce the poverty level.
The Prime CS noted that the school construction was done professionally and requested the school architect to help the government in coming up with such projects.
He noted the ongoing water connection in Kajiado North from Ndakaini Dam will be completed by December 2023. He added that the govt will also tarmac roads in the area including Gataka Road whose construction had stalled, the dusty road has been a menace to students from surrounding schools.
Mudavadi pointed out that the government has invested in education to empower its citizens and reduce poverty; he supported a young girl who had sought his help during the event, the girl had dropped out of university due to lack of school fees.
Father Angelo Betelli said there is a quest for education in the area, and that is why the school was put up to fill the gap and support the community.
Governor Joseph ole Lenku called on the government to fence off animal parks to reduce cases of human-wildlife conflicts, he said many people have been killed in the county by wild animals and the govt should act, he said the attacks have happening weekly.
A child was killed by an elephant a week ago in Kajiado South. Five people are nursing injuries at KNH after another attack.
Area MP Onesimus Ngogoyo requested the Prime CS to support local primary schools to have laboratories to improve their learning.
Others who attended the event are PS Ephantus Kamotho, Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho Senator Kanar Seki, Women Rep Leah Sankaire, and MP George Sunkuya(West) among other elected leaders.
