The Principal Secretary of, the State Department for Technical and Vocation Education and Training (TVET) Dr. Esther Muoria has urged education stakeholders to embrace the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as it plays a crucial role in shaping individuals’ lives and enriching our society.
While speaking during a workshop to review RPL policy framework at Lake Naivasha Resort on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, the PS said RPL is more than just a mechanism for validating existing skills but a philosophy that embraces the notion of lifelong learning.
“Recognition of Prior Learning is not a departure from traditional education; it is an evolution that acknowledges the multifaceted nature of learning.
As we embrace RPL, we move towards a future where every individual’s journey is valued, where barriers are dismantled, and where the pursuit of knowledge knows no boundaries,” Muoria said.
She said RPL has been equipped with the necessary tools and expertise to see to the incorporation of the findings and recommendations of the extended RPL pilot exercise as the education sector seeks to look for a greener future whilst it adopts itself with BETA as well as global demands for occupational skills.
“We harness the potential of our entire population, propelling us toward a more prosperous and sustainable future.
So far, we have the policies and frameworks in place and now, we have the feedback after putting the policies to test.
Now it is time to incorporate the findings and make the tools appropriate to address the emerging global trends and keep it aligned to the anticipated changes,” she added.
Also in attendance was the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, council chair KNQA – Hon. Stanley Kiptis, and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Technical Advisor – Ms. Caroline Njuki among others.
