13-year old boy beaten by mother to death for stealing maize

A 13-year-old boy in Mogoma village in Bomet County was beaten to death by his Mother for allegedly stealing maize from a neighbor’s farm.

Faith Cherono is being held at Bomet police station for allegedly killing her son on allegations that he stole two maize cobs.

Cherono 35 is said to have severely punished her son leaving him with serious injuries in the stomach that led to his death.

The suspect further turned to her 7-year-old daughter and gave her a merciless beating that left her with serious injuries leading to her admission at Longisa Referral Hospital for treatment.

According to Kembu area Chief Isaac Koech, the suspect committed the heinous act after receiving a complaint from her neighbor that the minors were seen picking some cobs of maize from his farm.

“After receiving the report from the neighbor, she picked up some sticks and started beating her children, she turned to the boy and stepped on his stomach and possibly left him bleeding internally,” Koech said.

The administrator said neighbors heard the children crying and pleading for mercy and rushed to the homestead.

They immediately rushed the children to hospital but unfortunately, the boy was pronounced dead on arrival.

The woman is currently being interrogated by detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Children’s Department.

Meanwhile, the police are also holding the minors’ Father as the body of the deceased was moved to Longisa Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
