The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), which places students in diploma teacher training programs, reopened its online application portal on Saturday, July 15.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu launched the application for placement to diploma teacher training courses, with 13, 439 slots up for grabs.

“The placement of trainees to the 32 public teacher training colleges will be handled by KUCCPS, which has just inaugurated its online application portal,” said Machogu.

According to the Ministry of Education, applicants will be seeking to fill 13, 439 slots in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) programmes.

The basic minimum requirement is a mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

There are no additional subject requirements.

”There has been a cluster requirement for subjects for those who want to take teaching courses despite the C Plain requirement but the presidential working party on education has recommended that if you have a C plain you can apply for teaching courses in Teacher Training colleges,” Machogu said.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome has further said that the portal will remain open until July 28, 2023.

“This opportunity is for qualified KCSE certificate holders including non-Kenyan citizens who sat for the exam in 2022 or earlier until the year 2000,” said Dr. Wahome.

The available places in the DPTE program are 11, 358 while there are 2,081 admission slots in the DECTE course.

Those that missed the teaching opportunity in Primary Teacher Education due to the five subjects’ condition of C plain are advised to grab this opportunity and apply now to avoid missing out on the September intake this year.

Applicants will be required to have Ksh1500 on their M-pesa for paying to KUCCPS.

Applications must be submitted via the KUCCPS portal (students.kuccps.net) before the stipulated deadline.
