Tension is building at the Kakamega School venue of the Western region schools’ term two ball games, two days ahead of the Wednesday kick-off of the regional championship.
The bane of trouble is the failure of organizers of the secondary schools’ sports Association (KSSSA) to act on a football dispute lodged by Kakamega School against Musingu High School for allegedly fielding an outsider during their semi-final clash at the Kakamega county games in which Musingu triumphed on penalties.
The rule intended to curb cheating in such games dictates that a team that is found guilty shall be disqualified and serve a two-year ban from such sporting activity.
An internet search on Ministry of Education records about the said student according to UPI and NEMIIS numbers reveals the Nynza-based school still receives the tuition government capitation funding for the student in contention.
Kakamega team manager Jared Anyira challenged the tribunal to dismiss their appeal if it lacks merit.
“The delay to make a finding on the appeal is causing anxiety and tension in the school. The evidence we provided is out there for anybody to verify. It’s nine days since we lodged the appeal and no verdict,” Anyira complained
Kakamega county director of Education Dickson Ogonya could not comment on the matter when reached for comment.
Western region education coordinator J.O Obiero said, “Who is complaining? These are just children’s activities. Kakamega was fourth in football at the county level.
Even if the appeal succeeds, it will be Lugusi School to be considered after emerging third in soccer.” Obiero stated.
Eight teams, two from the counties of Vohiga, Busia, Bungoma, and Kakamega are to square out for a chance to represent the Western region at the national championships to be held at Kakamega School in August.
The selection criterion for winners at the county games was such that all finalists gained an automatic ticket to the regional games.
Musingu Boys were crowned county football champions after beating Shanderema Secondary 2-1 in the final. Kakamega School was beaten 0-2 by Lugusi in the playoffs.
However, it’s the semi-final match that pitted Musingu Boys against Kakamega school that holds the keys to the crisis.
Anyira argues that if Musingu was to be found guilty of an offense at the semis, Kakamega School would be a finalist and gain an automatic entry to the regional games.
