Magoha decries slow construction of CBC classes in Kisii

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof George Magoha has decried the slow speed at which the CBC classrooms are being constructed in Kisii County.

He attributed the same to incompetent contractors who were sleeping on the job.

The CS was speaking at Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi Kegati Secondary School on Thursday, 25th August during an inspection of the school’s Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) infrastructure.

He asked schools’ Boards of Management to stop awarding tenders to contractors who were not committed to their work.

“If any contractor shows any laziness on the job, stop them and look for those who are ready to work well with you,” Magoha said.

He commended Kirinyaga and Embu Counties which had completed building classrooms to accommodate Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners and wondered what was with the slowness in Kisii County.

Prof Magoha revealed that a big number of schools in Nyanza region had also achieved 100% in construction of the classes unlike Kisii County which has achieved a paltry 8%.

The CS said that the government had spent a lot of money to launch the new Curriculum. He then implored parents and teachers to own it and suggest changes in order to succeed.

“Any education progress needs team work and collective responsibility,” he said.

Later on, he asked parents and teachers to co-operate with the next CS in the incoming government to build on what he had already achieved in the sector.

Prof Magoha then distanced himself from politics stressing that his was to see the success of the Kenyan child.

“I do not belong to any political party but my party and politics is the education of the Kenyan child,” he proclaimed
