Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has promised to fund infrastructure development in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the county.
While addressing residents during her inauguration, Mbarire she noted that most institutions were underfunded and lacked teaching aids and proper equipment to ensure transfer of skills and knowledge to the youth in readiness for the job market.
She promised to increase funds dedicated to the institutions so as to boost infrastructure development and also spearhead an increase in staffing for proper guidance of students.
The Governor further decried the status of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centers in the County and vowed to uplift its standards by improving the ratio of teachers to students.
“We are initially aiming at a teacher student ratio of 1 to 30 so that we can deliver fitting development to our children,” Mbarire said.
Mbarire further revealed that she will ensure the county bursary is fairly distributed so the deserving needy students benefit.
“We want to make sure all our students benefit from the county’s bursary kitty and this can be achieved by ensuring fair distribution of the same,” noted the governor.
