Nyamira parents furious over delay in disbursement of bursaries

EDUCATION alleged funds

Residents in Nyamira County have raised concern over delay in the release of the County Education Bursary Fund to enable them pay for their children’s school fees.

Parents, led by Abel Kaka Mose and Joel Moseti from Gesima Ward, blamed the county Governor Amos Nyaribo for allowing leniency among officers deployed to disburse and monitor the funds.

“The allocated money is with the county treasury but the offices are sleeping on the job as the Governor watches,” said Moseti.

They appealed to Nyaribo to intervene and at least release the money to the beneficiaries who had already been earmarked.

“We request the governor to provide prospective recipients of the money with an acknowledgement sheet to enable them stay in school as the money is being processed,” suggested Mose.

In another forum at Bunde Location, the Chief advised parents to liaise with teachers on payment of school fees so that students continue with their studies instead of returning them home to collect the fees.

He noted that some students took advantage to indulge in drug abuse and premarital sex leading to early pregnancies.

The chief was echoing Nyamira North Assistant Commissioner Lawrence Otunga who earlier on, sent a strict warning to parents whose children will be found indulging in drug-related activities.

Otunga who addressed the public at Ikonge town threatened to arrest both the parents and students who will be caught in the aforementioned activities.

He thanked the Church for being at the forefront in fighting drug abuse in the society and asked other organizations to emulate them.
