MP commissions construction of Ksh30M storey classrooms in Kakamega

MP

Shinyalu Member of Parliament (MP) Fred Ikana has launched the construction of storey classrooms in primary and secondary schools each costing Ksh30 million funded by the constituency NG-CDF kitty and other partners.

The multi-million shilling initiative will see many schools in the area increase their capacities and boost academic performance.

The MP said that the programme had kicked off at Shitochi Primary School in Isukha South ward, Mukulusu Primary in Murhanda ward and Ivakale Primary in Isukha East ward.

Ikana noted that many schools on the priority list had initially been ignored with some of their buildings condemned.

“We are going the ultra-modern storey way because some of the institutions do not have adequate land,” he added.

He promised to complete stalled projects started by his predecessors including Khayega Primary School located along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway.

“We have conducted an audit of all our education facilities in the constituency and are determined to give them a major facelift. Education is one of my areas of priority,” he added.

The legislator pointed out that 7,000 students in secondary school and colleges had benefitted from bursaries this year while another 5,000 learners in Form 1 were earmarked to benefit once the national government releases funds to constituencies.

The number is alongside hundreds of other needy students who have been placed on scholarships by the Ikana Maendeleo Foundation.
