Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Ministry of Education (MoE) officers have kicked off inspections in West Pokot County schools sooner than teachers expected.
Speaking to a section of teachers during the vigorous exercise, the County Curriculum Officer Neilson Musani said that the Commission decided to commence the exercise early to avoid cosmetic preparation by teachers.
“It’s our mandate to ensure that teachers’ preparedness is assessed,” he said.
He however thanked the teachers for meeting the optimum threshold and asked them maintain and improve the standards.
The programme which has hit the ground running began countrywide and is coordinated by Regional Directors, Quality Assurance Officers, and County and Sub-County Directors.
Apart from observing content delivery and teaching methodologies, the team is playing an advisory role and educating teachers on latest developments in the education sector.
Other forms of assessment include checking whether the following documents are available and up to date; schemes of work, lesson plans, summary of teachers’ weekly attendance, fully signed and filled appraisal contracting forms, weekly summary of teachers’ presence/absenteeism and the lesson attendance register.
Other vital requirements being ascertained are; preparation of relevant teaching aids, marking and summarizing learners attendance registers, checking of learners’ books, and availability of individual learner records.
Conclusively, the exercise is aimed at addressing and noting challenges teachers are facing in conducting Teacher Performance and Appraisal Development (TPAD) in all learning institutions.
