MP launches feeding programme for class 8 candidates

Bumula constituency Legislator Jack Wanami Wamboka has launched the second phase of his lunch programme targeting class eight candidates in 105 public primary schools in Kimaeti and Bumula sub-counties courtesy of his foundation at a cost of Ksh8.5 million.

Addressing stakeholders during the official launch of the programme at St. Teresa’s Kabula Boys High School, Hon. Wamboka said that he has purchased 400 bags of maize and 200 bags of beans towards the initiative noting that it is geared towards cushioning parents.

He noted that the programme will also go a long way to assist students who skip classes and miss school due to lack of food, which leads to low performance in national examinations.

The MP urged teachers to take advantage of the programme to ensure they cover the syllabus on time.

Wamboka urged area youth to embrace and enrol in local Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions such as Musakasa TTI to acquire technical skills, adding that through the  NG-CDF, he will provide bursaries; and also liaise with  the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to  fund their tuition fees.

Also present during the event was KNUT Bungoma South Executive Secretary Ken Ng’ang’a, KEPSHA  Kimaeti sub-county Chairperson Clement Wafula and KUPPET Bungoma Chairman David Barasa.

Barasa called on the Ministry of Education to disburse more funds to  schools as school heads were facing challenges in running their schools.
