The Ministry of Education (MoE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) to roll out Mind Education training in both basic and higher education institutions in Kenya.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria, who was representing Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu, together with IYF Chairman Rev. Yohan Kim signed the Intention Letter at the Kenya School of TVET during the National Mind Education Forum which was attended by TVET principals and other government officials.

The two entities will work together to promote professional ethics, integrity, patriotism, and the spirit of volunteering.

Dr. Muoria noted that the training will move the country to the next level and that it will motivate learners to do things differently including promoting good character which will transform their minds and in turn change the society.

The PS said behaviors witnessed in learning institutions such as school strikes and pregnancies among others, can be solved through promoting such programmes that instill the right mindset and promotes education development.

“Academics is not everything in students’ lives. We have to invest in mindset and character,” she said.

IYF Chairman Rev. Yohan Kim promised more partnerships between Korean and TVET institutions in the country.

Dr. Hong said Mind Education programmes focus on the world of the heart.

“When you want to change it doesn’t come with much effort, change first comes when you change the heart. To have a strong heart one has to overcome three difficulties which are Environmental, Circumstantial and Interpersonal difficulties. The program changes the mind from negativity to positivity, misery to hope, and isolation to sympathy,” he said.

Bunyala Technical Institute principal Emmanuel Wamalwa said the training was educative and urged Kenyans to embrace the programme which, he said, promoted hard work and ethics.

IYF is a global youth organization and international NGO. It works towards leadership-nurturing and practical problem-solving methods for problems of the global village, founded on Christian values.

IYF nurtures leaders of the next generation with intellectual power, a humble character and a cosmopolitan outlook. Through various international exchange activities and pursuit to enhance the harmony of mutual understanding between the country and the people.
