Primary and secondary school heads and teachers have been encouraged to shape their learners’ minds to accept Technical, Vocational and Education Training (TVET) institutions so that they may willingly join at the end of their basic education.
This was said by Rift Valley Regional Director of TVET Peter Cheruiyot in Nakuru City, insisting that teachers have a role to play in directing the careers of their learners.
He also challenged them to cultivate a positive attitude towards TVET as this will translate to more enrollment.
“TVET is meant to impart knowledge and skills on Kenyan youth. Our teachers and heads in primary and secondary schools should highlight the positive impact of TVET on learners,” he remarked.
He said statistics have proved that many young Kenyans prefer TVET as even university graduates are enrolling to get skills.
He also urged Boards of Management (BoMs) to work closely with Members of Parliament (MPs) to raise enrollment and improve the status of TVET institutions.
Saying collaboration between the BoMs and MPs will mobilize more youth to join the institutions, he saw the need to bring them on board through financial support.
Cheruiyot, who is in-charge of Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru and Baringo, called upon MPs to encourage the youth to enroll in these institutions, besides setting aside funds to motivate them as most are from poor backgrounds.
