KUPPET Nakuru County Executive Secretary Duncan Macharia has urged the government to gazette parts of Nakuru county as hardship areas due to the unfavourable climate that has affected teachers in those areas.

Speaking in Nakuru city, the director listed Kuresoi North and South, Maela, Mai Mahiu and Dabibi zones in Naivasha and Lower Ngata zone Rongai sub county as some of the areas to be considered hardship areas.

“Teachers from Kuresoi North and South have inaccessible roads hence they have difficulties getting to work and going back home after a tiring day,” he said.

He revealed that so many teachers have visited KUPPET offices trying to get solutions.

The unionist also called upon the government to give all teachers within Nakuru a  municipality allowance.

“Teachers are expected to produce good results and that can only happen when they are accorded the necessary support and their views are listened to. A municipality allowance will motivate our teachers,” he added.

He opposed the government’s proposal to deduct three per cent of teachers’ salaries for the housing scheme project.

“The union will join thousands of teachers to strongly oppose that move if the government doesn’t listen to our views.” He stated.
