Lawyer gives back to community, sponsors needy students

Those who are lucky to be wealthy in society have been asked to help children from poor families to enable them access quality education that will uplift their lives in the future. This came after a lawyer presented cheques to 20 secondary school learners who come from the 20 wards of Nyamira County.

Quoting the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, that education being the best equalizer in society, Henry Ongeri, the lawyer, underscored the importance of education.

He said through his Ongeri Bwakirese Education Foundation, will sponsor needy students every year to complete their studies.

“We have started small and hope our friends and residents will come on board to support this noble course,” he said.

Ongeri who is a professional lawyer, asked students in high school to seek proper guidance from their teachers on the appropriate cluster subjects they can take to enable them achieve careers of their dream.

He said that the beneficiaries are orphaned and those with single parents who had been selected on merit to benefit from the foundation throughout their four year course.

He asked political leaders from the area not to see his move as a political strategy meant to fight them but instead to join hands and boost educational development in the area.

“I will not like to hear this foundation being politicized because we did enough politics last year and this time we embark on constructive development projects in our constituency,” he said.

Ongeri who was speaking at the West Mugirango NG-CDF offices thanked the NG-CDF Committee and the area MP, Stephen Mogaka for giving education first priority but challenged them to fully engage stakeholders through public participation to enable them own the development Projects.
