Two pupils drown in school tank while swimming

Two boys drowned on Sunday evening while swimming in a school tank in Mathingau, Yatta sub-county, Machakos.

The two Grade Six and Seven pupils of Kionyweni Primary School sneaked and went swimming in the open tank before tragedy struck.

The incident was confirmed by Mathingau Assistant Chief, Michael Mutua who said the bodies of the boys have been moved to Mbaku funeral home.

“Police from Matuu Police Station were notified about the incident and took the body to the mortuary for presentation awaiting postmortem,” said the Chief.

The Chief urged parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts during the short holiday in order to avoid such happenings.

He also asked locals with open pits that my pose danger to kids this rainy season to ensure that they are covered.

“Cover or fence them so that such accidents are not witnessed,” he said.
