Sacho High School has been honored for emerging the 2023 winner at the 58th National Science Fair and Engineering Exhibition held recently at Kisumu Girls High School.

The school emerged victors after their innovative project dubbed ‘Automated Silo Machine’ was considered the most innovative project of the year at the fair.

The innovation by Form Four students Maison Zadock and Mailel Jeligei aims at converting uncontrollable manual silage to automated silage through their descriptive prototype automated Silo Machine invented by the school.

In their exhibition, the duo noted that the new invention seeks to come up with techniques where farmers get good, quality and nutritious feeds for their animals.

They pointed out that with the inception of the new idea, farmers would easily detect early stages of aerobic deterioration process hence improve silage management.

“Our invention is a game changer for farmers since it enhances ways of preserving and storing silage. This will tackle food insecurity and boost agriculture sector heavily depended in the country in semi-arid areas,” said the innovators.

The Automated Silo is also effective and hygienic for it allows farmers monitor temperature and PH readings depending on compression forces, anaerobic and aerobic bacteria affects are threats to silage quality.

“Automated Silo seeks to broaden horizons in the agricultural sector through the new technologies that pursues increase in production of silage. This new knowledge is cost effective, environmental friendly and needs to be embraced by farmers engaging in dairy farming,” said Maison.

While congratulating the innovators, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi said the county is committed to continuously supporting talents for thinkers and innovators in schools.

“Although innovativeness has been majorly fought in cyber space, the new invention and innovation (mechanical) in agricultural sector is poised to cuddle opportunities for dairy farmers in the county,’’ said Governor Cheboi.

Governor Cheboi added that plans were underway to build innovative centers in the county to help in creating ideas and commercialize their talents through partnership with Korea.

Sacho High School Chief Principal, Malowa Malowa, said the school intends to build innovation lab to support and sustain innovations by students.

He urged government to be in the forefront in backing students who have done exemplary in the field to enable them explore their talents overseas.

Sacho High School has this year earned top honors in Swimming, Music and recently participated at nationals in a French Play after winning in the Rift Valley Region in Music and drama Festivals.
