Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii officially launched the Uasin Gishu Technical Skills Sponsorship Programme.

Speaking during the launch, governor Bii said  the programme targets 900 youth in the field of motor vehicle driving.

“We have officially launched the Uasin Gishu Technical Skills Sponsorship Program which is aimed at equipping driving skills to over 900 students in technical institutions,” said the Uasin Gishu governor.

He noted that the program reflects government’s commitment to investing in the youth and one way of reducing unemployment.

“Through such programmes our youth after undergoing the driving lesson they can employ themselves,” he said.

“This is a significant investment in our county’s youth and economy as it provides comprehensive training on safe driving, road safety and entrepreneurship, preparing our young people for employment opportunities in the crucial transport industry while promoting safer roads,” he added.

Bii further urged students who completed Form Four to join universities to enroll in technical institutions where they will be able to acquire technical skills which will help them earn a living.

“I want to call upon students to join technical institutions where you can start from Certificate and at later join University and become somebody you wanted to be,” said the Uasin Gishu Governor.

He noted that every student studying VTCs gets Kshs 15,000 from the County Government and is required to pay Kshs 10,000 only in every year of study.

“Some of the marketable courses offered among others include; hairdressing, Carpentry, Agribusiness, Building, Technology, Electrical Installation and also Welding and Fabrication,” he added.
