The Kisumu County Government has announced an ambitious plan aimed at promoting Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the region.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education John Awiti added that the county intends to establish more VTCs across the sub counties.
He noted that the county government is already sponsoring a number of students in such centres across the county.
As a precursor to that, Awiti said that Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o had already started a business incubation center for the youth to harness their talents.
The CECM encouraged girls to take up technical and science-oriented subjects discounting the notion that STEM subjects are a preserve of boys only.
Awiti also urged school heads to carry out regular inspections in their learning institutions so as to ensure high standards of hygiene.
