Head teachers have been told to be the main midwives of the New Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in their schools because they are the influencers of government policy in schools.
Speaking during 19th Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) regional conference in Kisii County, Nyanza Region TSC Director, Jane Njage told head teachers that they are the main agents of the commission.
She told them to get conversant with Teachers Progressive Appraisals Development (TPAD) practice because this helps them to grow professionally.
Stressing on this year’s theme of the conference which was ‘Effective Management for conducive learning in the new curriculum dispensation,’ the director asked head teachers to love themselves first in their work and extend it to their staff and their pupils.
She reminded them of upholding professionalism as enshrined in the TSC Code of Conduct.
She asked the heads to exhibit total commitment to their staff and the community remaining together is progress, as working together leads to success.
The director asked head teachers and their deputies to guide other members of the staff to identify individual and diversified cognitive development in their learners and set to harness them for their holistic development.
She thanked Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir and his TSC counterpart Anne Wachira for hosting such a big conference, expressing her optimist that it would end well.
Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) Chairman, Dr. Ken Orlando of Maseno University equated head teachers to the anchors in their institutions as roots are in trees.
“You are the main points of anchorage to which your institutions lean on.” he encouraged the head teachers.
The conference had delegates from the six counties Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.
In the second day on Monday, the members were taken through the importance embracing the new CBC through integrating it with Information Compute Technology.
He told them that as leaders, they are required to walk an extra mile of influencing their staff by walking their talk in discharging their duties.
Other dignitaries expected to grace the conference at Gusii Stadium on Tuesday include Kisii County Governor Simba Arati and Nyanza Region director of Education Nelson Sifuna among other invited guests.
