Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has threatened to mobilize their members and boycot work when schools reopen for second term.
Speaking in Homa Bay town on Saturday, KUPPET National General Secretary Akelo Misori said that the teacher are demoralized due to delay of salaries.
“We are not begging the government in order to be paid what we have worked for,” he said.
The Secretary who was flanked by the KUPPET Homa Bay branch Chairman, Jacob Okoth, said that he has written to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) alerting them on the impending downing of tools by all teachers in the county unless they are paid their salaries for the months of March and April.
The concerned Secretary asked president William Ruto to change the narrative from the past governments that delayed salaries unless they were reminded through the teachers’strikes.
“We would not like to revert to the past years where we forced the government into a tag of economical war as students suffered unattended, we like our work but if they push us too much we have no alternative but to put our tools down,” he said.
- The secretary said that the TSC is exerting too much pressure on teachers for the perfection of their work in molding the child.
He asked them to reciprocate by giving teachers their Salaries in time to enable them fend for their families peacefully.
“The teaching professional involves a lot of brain work, therefore when their financial status is shaken they panic and slow effective delivery in class,” he said.
The Unionist thanked teachers for remaining devoted to their professional call but cautioned them against over leneincy whenever they were provoked by the employer.
