Renown educationist remembered in special way

People in their thousands attended the third memorial service of renown educationist, John Kanani Musili.

The event took place on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Katuka Primary School in Kase Location in Mumoni District, Kitui County.

John Kanani Musili is the father of the Kitui County Deputy Governor Augustine Wambua Kanani. The holy mass was presided over by Father Reverend Peter Muema Kyumbua.

The career teacher died at the Guru Nanak Hospital in Nairobi on April 12, 2020 where he was being treated for acute myloid leukemia (bone marrow cancer) aged 78. John Kanani Musili was born on July 6, 1942 in Wanguutu Village, Kase Location in Kitui District.

He joined teaching in 1966 until 1997 when he retired after having taught for 31 years. He did his “O” Level examination in 1970 as a private candidate. And he did his “A” Level examination in 1974 as a private candidate. John Kanani Musili is survived by his wife Beatrice Kalewa Kanani, two sons and three daughters, many grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The memorial service ceremony was addressed by several leaders among them, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, Kitui County Deputy Governor Augustine Wambua Kanani, Kitui County Women’s Representative Dr. Irene M. Kasalu, Kitui County Senator Enock Kiio Wambua, Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya, area (Mwingi North Constituency) Member of Parliament Paul Musyimi Nzengu, area (Mumoni) Assembly Ward Member Titus Munyoki Kasinga, former assistant minister and Kitui South Constituency Member of Parliament Patrice Mwangu Ivuti and dozens of County Assembly Members from Kitui, Machakos and Makueni Counties.

The Kitui County Elders Council Chairman Boniface Kameta Manzi also addressed the event.
