Timeframe for education reforms task-force extended by three months

The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) has been given an extension to work till June; this is according to a Gazette notice dated April 12 seen by Education News.

The 49- member committee will now have an additional three months to complete its work.

“The presidential working party on education reforms terms have been extended up to June 12, 2023,” the notice read in part.

The team was expected to end its work by the end of March since they kicked off the work in September 2022, with a budget estimate of Ksh 273 million to carry out its activities.

“The department received Sh273 million under temporary committee expenses to facilitate the taskforce for six months ending March,” the report also reads.

The team will submit recommendations in the basic education sector, on Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and the higher education sub-sector.

The team will also evaluate the assessment of learners, the quality assurance and the standards of CBC.

At the same time, President William Ruto had directed the team to look into the teacher training and deployment across the country.

On higher learning, Ruto asked the team lead by Raphael Munavu to review legislation on issues which include Technical and Vocational Training and Universities.
