Teacher found to have used fake certificates released on bond

A primary school teacher has been released on bond for faking school certificates.

The teacher was arraigned in Kisii Law Courts for faking his primary, secondary and college certificates and further securing a TSC certificate 16 years ago using the certificates.

Okombo Otieno, the accused person, was arraigned in Kisii Law Court by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for forging his academic certificates and presenting them to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in 2007.

Otieno, after forging the certificates, presented himself to his employer as Daudi Ochoi alias Duncan Magero.

He was arrested by officers from Ethics and Ant-corruption Commission and presented to the Kisii law court before the court Magistrate Wa Kugwa Wahinya under seven different counts relating to impersonation.

On particulars of the offenses, Otieno was accused of altering KCPE certificate of serial number 1008541 between February 2 and February 26, 2007, a lawful document issued to Ochoi Daudi Magero by the Kenya National Examination Council and falsely presenting himself to be the said Daudi Magero.

He was also accused of going against  section 384 of the penal code that he falsely presented himself as Ochoi Daudi Magero with a KCSE certificate serial number 380759.

On the third count, Otieno is said to have applied for the TSC job and presented a primary teachers certificate no 178447 which was lawfully issued to Duncan Ochoi by the Kenya National Examination Council and he presented himself as Duncan Ochoi.

He was further charged with providing false information to persons employed in the public service contrary to section 129 of the penal code and fraudulent acquisition of public property contrary to section 45 1A as read with section 48 of the anti-corruption and economic crimes on the same date at Gucha within Kisii country.

Otieno pleaded not guilty to the seven counts and he was released on a bond of Ksh 700,000 and a cash bail of Ksh.200, 000.

The case will be mentioned on 24th April.
