Science teacher mobilizes colleagues to improve subject in County

 The recent School Based Support System (SBTSS) seminar for teachers in West Pokot County organised by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in conjunction with Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology (CEMASTEA) was an eye opener for the teachers of science, mathematics and English.

For instance, Waridi Betar who was one of the science teachers at Chewoyet Boys National School organised a seminar with her colleagues from the Mnangei zone for teachers who teach science, mathematics and English.

The seminar took place at Makutano Primary School on April 6, 2023 In science subject which Waridi Betar facilitated the Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) which was largely emphasised.

The IBL for the learner involves 5E’s which are; Engagement, Elaboration, Exploration, Experimentation and Evaluation whereby the learner does most of the activities and the teacher acts as a facilitator or guider.

At the end of the induction, the teachers were able to make a common lesson plan which comprised of knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Other important areas in the lesson plan are learning Area, sub-strand, objectives and key inquiry question.

Waridi Betar is a reliable science teacher at St. Comboni Primary School (Kamwoting) currently teaching Grade Six and Class Eight.

One of the Mnagei zone science teachers, Mr. Alex Simiyu of Makutano Primary School confirmed that Waridi Betar is a resourceful science teacher in West Pokot County.
