Union asks teachers to maintain solidarity even in times of bereavement

Teachers have been asked to remain in solidarity at all times especially while mourning their departed ones.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha said that when death strikes it threatens and devasted even the strongest minds. He then underscored the importance of togetherness during such times.

He was consoling the family of Grace Njeri Okeno who untill her death was a teacher at Tabaka Township Secondary School in Gucha South Sub-county.

“I received the message with great shock and disbelief about the demise of our colleague,” he said.

Abincha assured that KUPPET Kisii Branch leadership and the entire teaching fraternity that it will stand with the bereaved family during such a hard times as they mourn their loved one.

He remembered the late Njeri as a teacher who cherished her work as she served the learners with focused dedication.

“She exhibited unmatched devotion to her profession of molding the child to perfection but death snatched her before accomplishing her professional mission,” he added.

The late Njeri was involved in a tragic road accident on Saturday at Tabaka Enamba Junction where she was hit by a speeding car.

The deceased was a wife to Benard Nyakeno of Nyabigena Boys High School.

Her body was taken to St. Joseph’s Tabaka Mission Hospital for postmortem and police investigation.

Abincha asked the motorists and Bodaboda riders to be careful on the road if more lives have to be spared from road carnage.

The fateful road accident comes a month after another teacher was crashed in a Matatu accident at Omosocho point along Ogembo -Mogonga road in Kisii County.

Robert Nyairo Otieno who was a teacher at Bishop Mugendi Nyakegogi Secondary School, met the death as he was travelling to his place of work from home.
