Union warns KNEC over plans to charge examiners training fees

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has censored the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) over their intention to charge teachers training on examinations marking.

Speaking at Kisii School during the Inter-Secondary Schools sports meeting on Thursday, Kisii County KUPPET Executives Secretary, Joseph Abincha, said that it is illogical for the examination body to charge the same professionals they hire for services.

“We are already professionals, the examination council should facilitate our retraining for the purpose of our value addition,” he said.

The Unionist called for harmonious understanding between teachers and the Council in order to run examinations smoothly.

He accused KNEC of hypocrisy and betrayal to teachers over the delayed payment of the examination marking money.

“They hire teachers for the exercise but when it comes to prompt payments, it becomes an uphill,” he said.

The Secretary claimed that many months have passed without the examiners, supervisors and invigilators of the 2022 examinations being paid.

He threatened to mobilize teachers to boycott this year’s examiners training until they are paid their marking funds which he said is overdue.

Concerning the professional adherence to their duties, Abincha thanked Kisii County Secondary Schools for posting good results in the 2022 KCSE examinations and asked them to use the same blade for this year.

“Serve the child diligently although you are sometimes exposed to unfavorable working enviroment by the employer,” he remarked

He promised that his office will continue to reward excellence in both academic and sports to promising schools.
