School communities told to embrace unity, aim at academic prosperity

Nominated Senator for Kisii County, Essy Ekenyuti, has called for unity among teachers, parents and students towards the common goal of improving education standards in schools across Kisii County.

She told them to foster team work by choosing common activities like tree planting and cultural day celebrations to act as a unifying factors for them as they take stock of their achievements and share experience that will steer them towards achieving their institution’s vision.

The senator who spoke to teachers and students of Nyamagwa Girls High School on Sunday during the Kisii County Career Mentorship day launched a tree planting exercise at the school and urged teachers and learners to take an active role in the conservation of the environment.

During the meeting, she asked the learners to embrace self-control and discipline because they are the pillars of success.

“You must embrace a self-drive attitude that will enable you to get whatever you want in life,” she said.

The senator who was flanked by Kisii County Woman Representative Doris Aburi and Nyamira County Senator Okong,o Omogeni among other elected leaders from Kisii and Nyamira Counties also told students students to remain focused in their studies in order to succeed in life.

On his part, Senator Omogeni thanked Ibeno Member of County Assembly Steve Arika for steering education programmes in his Ward and asked other Ward Representatives to follow his example.

Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo and his counterpart from West Mugirango Steve Mogaka who also graced the occasion called for all leaders from the area to encourage parents to invest in quality education because it is the best inheritance that they can leave to their children.

Mogaka who is a professional lawyer asked students to seek guidance from their teachers on the subjects that lead to promising careers that will enable them to compete well in the job market after completion of their university courses.

“You have to read with focused mind on the career of your choice depending on the advice you get from your teachers,” he said.

St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls High School posted impressive results in the 2022 KCSE examinations.

Out of the 243 candidates who sat the 2022 KCSE examinations, 241 qualified with direct entry grades to university. Two students scored grade A-, 68 B+ while only two students scored grade C and C- respectively to enable the school attain a mean score of 8.5 aggregate points.

The Principal of the school attributed the good performance to the cooperation from her teachers, parents and students.

“We have come this far through the fear of God, team work and goodwill from our leaders,” she said.

She thanked the leaders for visiting her school and promised to propel the school towards better results by mobilizing her teachers and students to sustain and strengthen their achievements.
