Govt urged to include private TVET colleges in students’ placement

TVET

The government through the Ministry of education has been asked to involve private Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions in its plan to place students to colleges.

Vitech Technical Training Institute principal, Julius Nyerere, argued that such a move will help increase students enrolments for TVET courses.

He reiterated that if the government wants more students to join middle level colleges, then it needs to also list private institutions in the universities and colleges central placement unit.

“The government should enhance sensitization and awareness creation on TVET courses in order to increase enrolment into TVET institutions,” he said.

He stated that members of the public need to be informed that technical skill courses are very cost effective hence those who didn’t attain university entry grades should consider enrolling for TVET courses.

He concluded by stating that TVETs have a platform for someone to train from artisan level to craft, diploma and eventually bachelors programmes.
