Schools urged by scientist to embrace STEM courses

Schools urged to embrace Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as Professor called on students in high schools to embrace science subjects to allow them be admitted to top universities offering quality courses in the country and abroad.

World Health Organization (WHO) Professor and KEMRI Lab scientist Dr. Peter Borus while presiding over a thanksgiving event at Chebara Boys High School pointed out that quality of education should be upheld through grasping opportunities in the science field.

He said quality grades in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects are encouraged in all schools to allow continuity of students joining reputable universities in Kenya and abroad as well as professionals in different fields.

Dr. Borus affirmed that STEM education and training applies inter-disciplinary research in learning and cognition, STEM integration and instructor development to students at initial stages.

The Professor of Epidemiology at the WHO attested that the country has faced a serious shortage of professionals in precision science field for most of schools have abandoned the quarter.

Dr. Borus noted that despite Chebara Boys High School is among STEM school in the region, the Scientist importuned the need of producing A, B+ grades in the STEM subjects to be recognized institution that can can produce students with quality grades to fit  in courses universities.

Schools urged to employ master coordination

He said despite the subjects in schools in the region were not up to speed, the scientist encouraged master coordination of the subjects to convene meetings and address declining performance in the science subjects.

‘‘Learners need to enjoy subjects they are thought in schools, this allows their stay in school memorable. Sciences need to thought and made the most preferred subjects schools in the country and embraced,’’ said the health professional.

The educationist who also doubles up as the School Board Chairman extolled the incredible strides made by the school to beat all the schools in the region.

Chebara Boys High School Chief Principal Mr. Musa Rotich noted that that STEM initiative had permitted pooling of resources together and enhanced schools to do competitive courses hence making schools identified produce worthy grades.

Mr. Rotich however admired impressive performance of Chebara Boys High School in STEM subjects making it competitive for students yearning for admissions in the school.

He said St. Patrick’s Boys High School Iten, Sambirir, Tambach Boys; Sing’ore Girls are among schools under STEM subjects in Elgeiyo Marakwet County.
