Teachers asks MPs to approve Sh56 billion requested by TSC

The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) has asked the National Assembly to approve Sh 56 billion budget required by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to increase the salaries for the Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers.

Speaking on Saturday, the Secretary General for KUSNET, James Torome, said the approval of the budget will enable the teachers to get pay rise in accordance to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

“Roadside declaration and other talks about approval are not helping us. We want to see MPs discuss the matter officially on the floor of Parliament,”Torome said.

He showed the teachers’ frustrations, saying that a section of Members of Parliament discuss the budget in funerals and in informal gatherings in villages instead of doing it in Parliament.

Earlier this month, the TSC through its secretary Nancy Macharia had requested the MPs in the committee on education and research that the agency was in dire need of Sh 14 billion for four years to implement the CBA 2021-2025.

At the same time, the union asked the government not to privatise learning institutions terming it to be too expensive for learners to access education.
