Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament, Mr. Clive Ombane Gisairo, yesterday disbursed bursaries worthy Sh.52 million to tertiary institutions and secondary school students with Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) students being  allocated the highest amount .

While the university students were each given Sh.6,000, those from TVET institutions were each given  Sh.15,000.

Secondary school students, who were for the first time given bursaries, were each given Sh. 3,000.

While releasing the cheques to various institutions at CDF offices at Tombe market ,Gisairo said that  a total of 5,009  University and college students benefited and  were allocated a total of Sh. 29,198,000  while a total of 7,611 secondary school students were allocated a sum total of Sh. 22,833,000 bringing it to a total of Sh.52,031,000.

The legislator promised that he could increase money for those joining TVET institutions in the constituency from Sh.15,000 to Sh. 20,000 in the next financial year as one way of attracting and encouraging  more students into joining the technical institutions.

He challenged and encouraged  students  who recently sat KCSE examinations and could not meet  university entry points or qualifications  to join TVET institutions,  which he said after going  through  the  courses offered, they could  be  at a better  position  of being self-employment.

“I am asking our parents and children to change the attitudes they have towards TVET institutions,” he stated, adding; “The skills and knowledge one gets from TVET institutions could enable one to start his or her own business, creating self-employment.”

The MP also warned university students who are not registered voters in the constituency or who do not vote in the area that they could not be given any bursary allocation in the next financial year.
