Teachers retooling programme kicks off

By Hillary Muhalya

The Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have launched the first ever training of teachers through the ambitious “Retooling Programme” which is aimed at honing teachers skills in all the 19 learning areas.

Speaking during it’s launch at Nasokol Girls High school, the TSC county director, Mr Bernard Kimachas appealed to teachers to take the course very seriously asking them to come down to the level of Primary school learners in order to make their teaching meaningful.
The course had over ten trainers, three from Chesta TTC led by Alfred Jumba-H.O.D Creative Arts, over 8 curriculum support officers led by Mr. Neilson Musani.
The key trainer and moderator was Dr. Nakhisa Kusimba, a seasoned scholar with vast experience in capacity building in education matters.
The training involved over 630 participants from West Pokot, 250 headteachers, 200 newly recruited university graduates, 100 teachers from private schools and 25 P1 university graduates with prerequisite qualifications to teach in high school.
The course designed to take one week was so intensive, interactive and participatory.
The various courses were offered included:
1.Assessment tools
2.School year report
3.School based assessment
4.Integration of ICT in learning
5.Progress records
6.Action research
7.Mental health
These were handled effectively among all other subjects taught at the Junior Secondary School level.
Sharing is Caring!
