The government has been urged to engage academic stakeholders when implementing policies of great impact to education. This is in order to ensure smooth running of schools and steady growth in development of educational institutions.
Speaking after being crowned a clan elder due to his efforts of spearheading academic transformation in Kisii County, Eng. Richard Mwebi Kwang’a, lamented that government should allow suppliers to furnish school libraries with books instead of the ministry taking up the obligation.
“In the past, the government left services of supplying books to stationery suppliers which could boost businesses and engagement on societal wellbeing. Why can’t the ministry leave it to them?” he posed noting that the books and stationery suppliers were following rules and regulations from the Ministry of Education on which book to sell to learners.
According to him, the previous order should be reinstated to allow suppliers to have the way in which engagement with school on academics was felt and was like a societal obligation to also boost academic performance of schools.
Eng. Mwebi however appreciated the bold steps that the community has put forward towards ensuring good academic progress in Gusii region.
“I am humbled to have been crowned to be the elder and more so, for the efforts on academic transformation,” he said as he accepted the crown, adding that he will not relent in his spirit of being part and parcel of moving Gusii to greater heights academically.
His efforts on educational development has yielded fruits as in many institutions, he has offered sponsorship to needy learners to access education. He has also offered stationary and uniforms to the less fortunate in the society.
He further vowed to continue giving his services and assisting the less fortunate in Gusii as part of his goodwill and commitment to make education an equalizer in the society and success to many.
