Teachers to pay more for TSC registration

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to increase the charges on its services offered with a key target being increasing the registration fee for teachers, in order to get enough money to fully fund its 2022/2023 budget.

According to the Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia in a bid to address the challenges arising from budget rationalization, they requested to adjust Appropriation-in-Aid (A-I-A) by Ksh 148 Million.

This was revealed when she was responding to parliamentary questions raised by the departmental committee on education in considering supplementary estimates for the 2022/2023 Financial Year, where the Commission was asked by legislators to provide a brief on justification for additional expenditure requests and allocations.

“This is occasioned by an increase in collections from fees on registration of teachers and service charge from third parties,” said Dr. Macharia.

If this will get MPs approval then the Commission’s first supplementary estimates will be revised from the approved Ksh 298.3 million to Ksh 304.7 million, which is a charge in estimates of Ksh 6.4 million.

Currently, the Commission charges Ksh 1,060 for registration of new teachers where Ksh 1,000 is a non-refundable registration fee and Ksh 60 for Bank Commission Charge to the TSC.

For application for a duplicate certificate, one is required to deposit Ksh 2,060 whereby Ksh 2,000 is a non-refundable application fee and Ksh 60 for Bank Commission Charge to the TSC.

A teacher who meets the requirements for registration is issued with the certificate of Registration bearing a TSC number within 30 days after making the formal online application, with the Commission publishing annually the names of all registered teachers.

Applicants are required to apply for registration online and one is required to scan and upload certified copies of academic and professional certificates, national identity card, bank slip, One passport size photo, KRA pin, GP69 form, certificate of good conduct, and entry and work permits for non-Kenyans.
