Boy child’s plight in Kisii threatened, Principal says

By Gilbert Kobi

Gionseri Girls High school Principal has decried the blatant neglect of the boy child in Kisii county.

Mrs. Deborah Osoro claimed that the society has concentrated its efforts towards ensuring the girl child is educated but has forgotten to do the same with the boy child who now become bodaboda riders after sitting their KCSE exams or neglecting school altogether.

“We can’t have learned girls all over and then we have bodaboda riders who neglected school,” said Mrs. Osoro.

She further challenged the boy child to get up and fight for his space in the academic field.

Speaking in her office, the Principal prided herself for steering the school to improve its KCSE performance, which has led to an increase in population from around 200 students to over 1,000 now.

“It wasn’t an easy task to be handed a school with few students and great expectations,” she stated.

According to Mrs. Osoro, all challenges notwithstanding, she engaged her team of teachers who sacrificed their time and vowed to harmonize their energies to achieve set goals.

She said that she holds close to her heart education of the girl child, the reason she treats each and every issue raised in the school with utmost speed.

“These girls need to be attended to closely and with passion for they easily get nervous and frustrated when faced with challenges,” she said adding that they strengthened the guidance and counselling department to help the girls feel emotionally secure.
