The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has approved a total of 10,833 primary school teachers who have requested to be deployed to teach in Junior Secondary Schools (JSSs) with the deployment process beginning immediately.
In a Circular dated February 17, 2023 signed by the Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Nancy Macharia, TSC has availed a list of the teachers to all Regional, County and Sub-County Directors; instructing them to only deploy those qualified to teach the schools.
“Upon receipt of these lists, you are required to deploy qualified teachers to JSS using the guidelines listed herein,” directed Dr. Macharia.
According to TSC, primary school teachers wishing to be deployed to JSS must be qualified to teach in secondary schools and must be a registered teacher with the Commission.
Further, the teacher must be employed as a primary school teacher and should not be currently serving an interdiction or undergoing any disciplinary process.
For the teacher to be deployed, they should also have a minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE (or its equivalent) with C+ in two teaching subjects currently being offered in the school curriculum (either under 8-4-4 or CBC) or two (2) principles and one (1) subsidiary pass at “A” Level.
Those with a minimum of C (plain) at KCSE (or its equivalent) and have undertaken a Diploma in Education together with a Bachelor Degree in Education also qualify for deployment.
The degree certificate must be Bachelor of Education – however, Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) holders are not eligible for deployment – and must have expressed interest to be deployed to JSS and their name is in the list from the Headquarters.
Sub-County Directors should invite the candidates as per the lists provided by the County Director for the verification of documents during vetting process.
During vetting process, the teachers have been instructed to present their original and copies of the degree/diploma certificate, academic transcripts, SNE qualification (where applicable) and KCSE certificate (or its equivalent); a copy of the current payslip, and a declaration by the Head of Institution that the teacher is currently serving in the school and is neither serving an interdiction nor undergoing a disciplinary process.
