Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Evelyn Wekesa has urged schools to elect competent individuals committed to developing education standards to their Boards of Management (BoMs).
Wekesa who spoke in Tala during a bursary issuance event observed that such members of the Board determine how a school performs in national examinations.
“I will tell you time and again to choose a Board of Management that is committed to ensuring excellence in schools. These are the people who will follow up and ensure the school is well-run and all stakeholders are happy,” she said.
The DCC confirmed that Matungulu sub county is yet to achieve 100 per cent transition noting that there are children supposed to be in school still at home. He urged the local administrators to ensure every child goes in school.
“In Matungulu we are at 96.48 per cent in terms of the hundred per cent transition policy and that is why we need to ensure no child is at home when they are supposed to be in school. The government has put in place measures to ensure our children learn without interruptions,” she said.
Wekesa also urged parents to encourage their children to join polytechnics and training institutes after failing to secure University entry grades.
“We have our own Katine Technical Training Institute here but most of the students are not from here. We should encourage our children to enroll rather than staying at home and abusing drugs,” she concluded.
