South Nyanza Regional TVET Director Tom Muga has called on the Migori Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and other leaders to advocate for technical education and training in their wards to bring education closer to their residents.
Muga said the future is biased towards technology and technical skills which are spearheaded by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

He called on the leaders to consider giving scholarships to at least five students in TVETs from their regions of representation.
“By giving scholarships to youth in TVETs, we will help create jobs in a bid to curb unemployment and also provide professionalism in technical sectors,” said Muga.
In a meeting held at the Migori County Assembly chambers on Friday with MCAs together with the Kakrao Technical and Vocational College (TVC) Board of Management, Mr. Muga assured them that TVET colleges now have well-trained and qualified teaching personnel to train students on both short and long duration courses.

Kakrao TVC Principal Felix Odhiambo called on leaders to not only restrict themselves with scholarships and bursaries but to also give other forms of support in terms of finances, machinery and enrollment of learners to help the institutions grow and run smoothly.
He lauded the MCAs and the assembly leadership for granting him the opportunity to share with them their achievements and grievances noting that he was hopeful the leaders would help the institution grow.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to come to these chambers to share with you what we have achieved and challenges we have experienced in the running of technical intuitions. Our learners need the support of their leaders to be able to achieve their professional dreams,” said Odhiambo.
The MCAs led by the County Assembly Speaker Hon. Charles Oyugi Owino, Deputy Speaker Hon. David Chacha Mathews, Majority Leader Hon. Edward Ooro and Education Committee Chairperson Hon. Norman Ogolla assured the Board members of their support to the TVET institution and others across the county.

The Speaker also noted that the county government through the assembly committee had set aside 30 per cent of its budget for tertiary education.
