Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang has stated that the government will disburse capitation funds to schools soon ahead of schools reopening early next year.
Speaking during the 18th Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) Annual Conference held at Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre in Mombasa, Dr. Kipsang also promised that the government will provide financial support to construct more classrooms and ensure that free primary and secondary education programmes are effective.
He said that the government will ensure success of the 100 percent transition policy into secondary school to enhance education levels in all parts of the country.
“In each primary school in the country there will be a secondary school to ensure that all children access secondary education,” said the PS.
Dr. Kipsang identified the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) as an area they are keen to ensure it sails through.
He further revealed that the government has enough manpower to manage CBC programmes in the country.
The PS asked the school heads to fully support CBC to make it a success thus he called for good leadership and proper governance of learning institutions
KEPSHA National Chairperson Johnstone Nzioka said that school head teachers are ready to handle Junior Secondary School (JSS).
However, he urged the government to allocate adequate funds for improved school infrastructure.
“The government should put up more classrooms in order to cope with the ever increasing enrolments countrywide,” he implored.
The Chairperson said that KEPSHA will work closely with the government to ensure CBC programmes operate as scheduled.
To achieve the target, Nzioka urged the Teachers Service Commission to employ more teachers to end understaffing.
“Some schools are facing an acute shortage of teachers, thus defeating teachers’ efforts to offer quality education,” added Nzioka.
Mr. Nzioka said that despite challenges, KEPSHA has performed very well in terms of delivering quality services to members.
