Kyeleni Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Bahati has launched a football tournament as a sensitization campaign against early pregnancies and drug abuse among school going children during the December long holiday.

During the occasion, the girls and boys drawn from eight villages in the Ward were issued with football game kits.

“My aim is to strengthen campaigns against teenage pregnancy and drug abuse by addressing its causes through working on improved data collection and information systems to identify children at risk and implement policies and strategies aimed at early pregnancy prevention and drugs abuse among school children,” she said.

Speaking at Mililu village yesterday after launching the campaign, Ms. Bahati said she will reach out to girls and boys in other wards and sensitize them on the same.

She called on parents to educate and advice their young girls against engaging in premarital sex as it exposes them to early pregnancies.

The MCA suggested the introduction of an Inter-Ward games tournament so as to identify talents and keep the youth busy.

Ms. Bahati also appealed to county elected leaders to set aside funds for the education of bright children from poor families and orphaned girls.
