The Principal of Anin Girls Secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet is in police custody over allegations of exam irregularities in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

It is alleged that teachers at her school were assisting students write their exams. The incident prompted security officers to swing into action and arrested the Principal and her deputy.

Confirming the incident, County commissioner John Korir said a multi-agency team was sent to the institution to arrest the center manager.

“We received information of exam malpractice in the school and swiftly acted. The center manager and her deputy have been arrested and are assisting officers in their investigations,” Korir said.

He added that the two teachers will be arraigned in court once investigations have been done, further revealing that supervisors, invigilators and security personnel who were manning exams in the school have been suspended and are recording statements.

He assured parents and students that measures have been put in place to ensure the remaining examinations are done smoothly since other officials have been appointed to run the exams.
