More than 350 form four candidates at Kanga Boys National School braved a fire incident and presented themselves in time for the KCSE exams that have kicked off.

The fierce fire razed down a 320 capacity dormitory that housed form 3 and 4 students. Students’ belonging of an unknown value was consumed in the inferno.

Firefighting teams from Sony Sugar and Migori county government arrived at the scene to contain the fire as staff from Kenya Power and detectives arrived to establish the cause of fire.

Rongo Deputy Sub County Commissioner Joseph Kimutai Ng’eny urged the candidates to remain focused and not be scared by the fire outbreak.

He promised to ensure the school environment is conducive for learning and revision during the exams period and advised the candidates to resist attempts to sneak in ‘exam leakage’.

“The government will not hesitate to deal with sinister characters who are out to mislead you,” he warned.

Ng’eny advised heads of institutions to be keen and report to relevant authorities people roaming around learning institutions aimlessly.

He expressed optimism that Kanga High will continue to be a role model to learning institutions in Nyanza region and beyond.

Principal Reuben Kodiango advised the candidates not to be scared by the fire incident but to instead remain confident in realizing good results.

The candidates said they will not be scared by the incident and appealed to the law enforcement team to deploy personnel to patrol around the institution, especially during the exam period.
