The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has released a circular instructing Principals and head teachers on individuals authorized to be present at examination centres during the national examinations.

According to the circular dated November 7, 2022 and signed by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) CEO David Njeng’ere, the following are the only authorized persons expected in examination centres; Centre manager, Deputy principal/Head teacher, Supervisor(s), Invigilator(s), Gatekeeper, Laboratory technician, Science teacher and support staff to prepare meals for candidates.

The circular indicates that where an examination has more than one deputy, then the centre manager shall designate one deputy to assist him/her. The laboratory technician and science teacher are also expected to be present only when practical papers are being done.

The circular also indicates that unauthorized persons will not be allowed in the examination centres from 7am to 2pm during Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and from 7am to 3pm during Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

The Centre Manager is also expected to prepare a list of authorised centre staff at the centre and should be approved by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Sub County Director and the Sub County Director of Education.
