Lawyer asks CBC critics to appreciate its long term benefits

A prominent lawyer has urged Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) skeptics to shelve their shallow criticisms but look at the wider picture the system envisions and embrace it for the relevant skills training of the future generations.

Speaking during a meeting for education stakeholders held at Viongozi Centre in Nyamira county, Danstan Omari asked Kenyans to accept the change in curriculum because it is in tandem with the global technological transformations.

“We must train and position our human resources to fit in the ever-changing global dynamics,” he advised.

He lauded the implementation of the introduction and implementation of the curriculum since its liberal approach revolves around the child and gives them an opportunity to explore their intrinsic academic prowess that prepares them for future careers.

“The CBC is important because it builds on a clear career foundation starting from the formative years of the child,” he said..

On critics citing lack of enough class rooms, he pointed them to schools in some parts of the North Eastern region whose students studied under trees but still produced excellent examination results.

However, the lawyer faulted the Ministry of Education for hastening the curriculum’s implementation without consulting major stakeholders causing misunderstanding between education policy implementers and parents who opposed the policy.

Omari claimed that education is one of the main tools for individual and group emancipation.

“Let the government provide an enabling environment for education development by creating peace and desirable tax systems to enable the public and private professional investors to champion the development of education in this country,” he uttered.

Thus he urged the government to send professionals to countries where the system is practiced to bench mark and bring back recommendations for evaluation.

The lawyer remained optimistic in the implementation of CBC claiming it is the true reflection of the country’s Vision 2030.
