MP urges Gov’t to tighten noose on exam cheating

Khwisero Member of Parliament (MP) Christopher Aseka has urged the government to tighten the noose on cheating in national examinations.

Aseka noted that leakages in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations lowered the morale of genuinely hardworking learners.

He hailed the immediate former Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha and his predecessor Fred Matiang’i over the tough measures they introduced to curb the vice.

“My appeal to the new Education CS is to put tough measures in place that will deter any form of cheating. He should emulate Prof. Magoha and Dr. Matiang’i,” he said.

The MP was speaking in his constituency when he flagged off foodstuff – he termed as special diet – and success cards to all KCPE and KCSE candidates in the area.

The special diet is meant for candidates and their supervisors and is parallel to what he provides for the school feeding programme, an initiative he pointed out was meant to mitigate the effects of hunger on learners and candidates.

The legislator also urged parents to support their daughters who got pregnant while still in school to continue with their studies after giving birth noting that many of the girls he had previously supported to return to school had performed very well.

He further revealed that over 800 learners from humble family backgrounds whom he placed on scholarships under his Aseka Miradi Foundation were excelling.

“I am so impressed with their performance and I would like to assure that I will add more beneficiaries as we shed off those who complete their studies,” said Aseka.

He added: “I always advise those who secure opportunities after studies to also support one or two needy learners. My objective is to ensure that all corners of Khwisero are empowered in the next couple of years through education.”
