CBC is too expensive; Governor Ntutu tells CBC review taskforce

Narok County governor Patrick ole Ntutu has said that the implementation of the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) is too expensive.

While presenting his views regarding CBC to the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms at Ole Tipis Girls, the governor said that materials needed for learning are costly and not easily available.

Ntutu pointed out that learners’ talents should be identified early to inform what career to pursue later in life and also make a living through the skills acquired.

Masikonte Primary school teacher Maria Tunda said that CBC has a myriad of challenges which include long hours of learning, lack of teaching material and non-conducive learning environment.

She said that uploading assessments is also costly for the teachers as they need a laptop and fast internet which is a rarity in rural areas.

The CBC review taskforce left for Kajiado County on Friday 11, November and held a public forum at Umma University, Kajiado Campus.

The 42-member team was constituted by President William Ruto to assess education reforms in the country including the controversial CBC.

The public is invited to give their views and recommendations on the education reforms by attending the meetings physical or sending their recommendations to the taskforce via email to secretariat@educationreforms.go.ke up to 18th November 2022.
